20 Things to Love About The Event Team

In honor of our Twentieth Year, The Event Team will be featuring several “20-themed” blog posts this year. These entries will provide useful information on things we love about Southern California, newest trends in the corporate events industry, and much more! The list doesn’t have to stop at 20 – feel free to add to the list in the comments section! Since we are celebrating the company’s 20th Anniversary, we figured the best way to start is highlighting the reasons we have been and continue to be so successful in the destination management world!

20 Things to Love About The Event Team:
1. We Get Noticed:
In 2011, The Event Team was recognized on more than one occasion for outstanding service and expertise. We were named one of San Diego’s Healthiest Companies by San Diego Business Journal and nominated for best Teambuilding by Meetings & Events Magazine, while Matt Robbins & Lindsay White were finalists in SDBJ’s Most Admired CEO awards & Women Who Mean Business awards. You like us, you really like us!

2: We Get Involved: Everywhere you go, there we are! We are members of just about every organization you can think of, including San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau, Meeting Planners International, Los Angeles Inc, Hotel Motel Association, Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International, and many more! We sit on executive boards, chair committees, lead discussions, and make sure we are dialed in to what is happening in the hospitality industry.

3: We Give Back:
Our community is important to us, so we always make sure to contribute to it! Besides offering an array of philanthropic teambuilding events for clients, we hold an annual Adopt-A-Family program with Home Start, and we organize a Toys for Tots drive every year at our holiday party.  We also love to organize volunteer projects where our hotel partners can come out and get involved with us! We’re working on a new philanthropic event for this summer, so stay tuned!

4: We Are Reliable:
We excel at last-minute phone calls from hotels and clients! We are great at being on our toes and shifting gears to accommodate any last minute requests. Time constraints are never an excuse to sacrifice the quality of service!

5: We Throw a Great Party: Have you SEEN our events lately? Glowing tables, live music, food trucks, interactive dessert stations, and more!

6: We Are Family: Sometimes we want to kill each other, but most of the time we are each others’ biggest fans. Over the years, we’ve attended family funerals, weddings, anniversaries, etc., and we are always pulling together for all-hands-on-deck situations.

7: We Have an Amazing President: Matt Robbins is the best at hiring great people and getting out of their way. He provides strong leadership and support without micromanaging, which allows the rest of the team to excel.

8: We Have an Incredible Sales Team:
2011 was our best year and that is in part to the efforts of our Sales Team. Everyone has their niche and pulls their weight in a unique way, resulting in growing sales. Thanks to Matt, Bill, Romy, Dick, Ciera, & Katie, proposals are flying out the door at incredible speeds and the signed contracts are rolling in! Our sales efforts are running on all cylinders at all times!

9: We Have an Awesome Operations Team:
Our Operations Team isn’t too shabby either! Our events run flawlessly thanks to Paige, Sally & Rachelle – the 3 Wonder Women of the office! They dot the i’s and cross the t’s without ever breaking a sweat! They all have an amazing ability to juggle several detailed tasks without losing focus on the big picture!

10: We Have a Creative Marketing Team: 
Starting in 2011, The Event Team made a huge decision to dedicate one of our full-time positions to marketing efforts, and it has definitely paid off! Lindsay has done a great job in updating our company image & brand, and assisting the sales team by providing creative resources and strategies.

11: We Focus on Great Service: We are big on client goals & objectives. It is our responsibility to exceed them, not just meet them!

12: We Are Always Developing New Services:
We just implemented a new “First Friday” meeting in our office, where the whole team gets together on the first Friday of each month to brainstorm & develop new ideas, products and services. Run of the mill isn’t good enough – we want to offer our clients the newest and most innovative activities and events possible!

13: We Play Hard: One of the best perks of working at The Event Team is our company retreat. Matt rewards all of our hard work about twice a year with a fun retreat. Whether it’s a staycation or a trip to Santa Barbara or Big Bear, we love to get together and have fun! Letting loose every once in a while is the key to staying sane!

14: We Are Local Experts:
Most of us were born and raised in the area, so we take pride in knowing the past, present and future of our region! We know visitors will love our cities as much as we do!

15: We Have a Global Reach:
Our partnership with Hosts Global Alliance provides us a world-wide reach while allowing us to maintain the characteristics of your friendly neighborhood DMC. And we love that!

16: We Have Rock-Solid Vendor Relationships:
We won’t do business with anyone we don’t trust. So we make sure our preferred vendors are trustworthy and reliable!

17: We Care About Making Our Hotel Partners Look Good:
Over the years, we have developed strong relationships, and even friendships, with our hotel partners. We love helping them make our city and their properties shine for potential clients! Whether chatting at one of our mixers, putting our heads together for a SDCVB Client event, or getting involved in a last-minute site inspection, we are always ready to lend a helping hand!

18. We Have the Most Reliable Field Staff: We are so proud of our event staff. They always come through, they always go the extra mile for us, and they always have a smile on their faces! They are our eyes and ears at events, and their feedback really allows our team to make daily improvements.

19. We Have Repeat Clients: It is one of our priorities to make sure clients come back, and as a result, we’ve developed long-lasting partnerships with many clients. They know they can rely on us to top last year’s party, and they can’t wait to see our new ideas for next year’s event!

20. We Have a Cool Office: No, we didn’t run out of ideas! We really do have a cool office! Clean carpets, fresh paint, an accent wall featuring our new logo, some awesome landscaped pictures of Southern California, and a coffee machine that makes like 45 different kinds of drinks.
