Top Gun Party at MCAS Miramar Officer’s Club

The classic movie Top Gun may be 30 years old, but that doesn’t stop our corporate groups from “feeling the need for speed” at one of the film’s most famous locations. Last month, one of our groups was treated to such an experience at MCAS Miramar San Diego. Here’s a glimpse of our latest Top Gun party:

Transportation

MCAS Mirmar is an active military base, so we always make sure to navigate the venue’s many rules and regulations, ensuring safe and secure transport for all our guests!

Flightline & Hangar Tour

The event started off with a tour of Miramar’s flightline and hangar, where guests enjoyed an up-close glimpse of amazing military aircraft.

Cocktail Reception & Seated Dinner

We provided an upgraded event decor package for this indoor/outdoor soiree, moving away from the typical patriotic look and instead focusing on beautiful colors and rustic accents like burlap and market string lights. The client provided each guest with fun amenities like aviators and engraved dog tags.

Entertainment

Classy background music was provided throughout the reception and dinner via the talented Brian Stodart duo. The event culminated with a hilariously entertaining performance by our “Maverick” and “Goose” doppelgangers.

Employee, Staff, Vendor, and Hotelier of the Fourth Quarter Announced

Each quarter, The Event Team recognizes a few “super people” who have contributed to our company’s success in a huge way. Our Southern California destination management company relies on great relationships with vendors, staff, and hoteliers to provide successful corporate events and happy clients. Here are the fourth quarter winners for 2015!

Full Time Employee of the Quarter: Monica Paniagua, Sales Assistant (San Diego, CA)

Monica just passed her one year mark with The Event Team, but in that time she has grown and contributed to the company immensely. Tasked with the challenge of keeping up with Director of Sales Romy Linde, who services 33% of our clientele annually, Monica quickly learned the ropes and has already assisted with proposals for over 50 accounts. “Monica’s great attitude, work ethic, and organization are just a few of her wonderful qualities,” says Romy. “I am grateful to have her by my side!”

In November, when Romy’s second baby decided to arrive a few weeks early and when Sales Manager Rachel Horgan announced her move to Seattle, Monica confidently stepped into the Sales Manager role to manage pending accounts, take new client requests, and maintain weekly reach-out to our valued hotel partners. In addition to keeping our clients and hoteliers happy, she still finds time to provide crucial sales training to our newest team members. “Monica is the ideal co-worker,” says Director of Marketing Lindsay White. “She deserves to be recognized not only for her hard work and team spirit but also for the respect and kindness she shows others. She’s the kind of person you look forward to working with every day.”

Matt Robbins, president of The Event Team agrees. “Monica has quietly worked her way into an irreplaceable part of the team. She is amazingly fast, thorough, and detail-oriented with her proposals. She has stepped up big time in Romy’s absence and has done a great job dealing with clients and hoteliers.”

Field Staff Employee of the Quarter: Pat Conway (San Diego, CA)

Pat has been a member of our staff for several years and has proven over and over that he is someone you can depend on and takes the job seriously. Under pressure he remains calm and keeps the guests’ best interest in mind at all times, thinks quickly on his feet and continually goes above and beyond for our operations department.

Hotelier of the Quarter: Chelsea Liu, Andaz (San Diego, CA)

Chelsea Liu is a San Diego Meeting Certified Sales Manager at Andaz San Diego, a beautiful luxury boutique hotel in the heart of the Gaslamp District. In her time at Andaz, Chelsea has developed a great partnership with The Event Team, helping to make Andaz one of our top hotel partners for corporate events in the downtown San Diego area. “Chelsea and I clicked from the start,” says The Event Team’s Director of Sales Romy Linde. “She has such an amazing attitude and is so talented. She is a machine and I love working with her!”

Vendor of the Quarter: Sun Diego (San Diego, CA)

Although SunDiego is a new valued partner to The Event Team, they are a leader in the hospitality and corporate events industry. Their equipment is always clean and well-maintained, and their drivers are true professionals and partners with our staff. On the sales side, Sun Diego is always willing to work with our team to offer competitive pricing that helps The Event Team win business.  Changing vendors is never easy, but SunDiego helped make the process a smooth transition. We look forward to a great 2016 together!

Los Angeles Downtown Skyline at Night with Freeways

3 Tips on Beating Los Angeles Traffic

Ah, Los Angeles traffic – can’t live with it, can’t live… with it. Ask any Angeleno and they will tell you it simply comes with the territory of living in Los Angeles, but with these tips traffic can be a thing of the past!

Los Angeles Downtown Skyline at Night with Freeways

1. Apps

We have the technology! Luckily there are people on this earth that hate traffic just as much as you do and created user friendly software to minimize travel times. Put your phone to work and make that morning commute a bit faster and easier with these traffic applications.

• Beat the Traffic – With live updates on accidents, congestion, and traffic, Beat the Traffic will help you find the fastest route to your destination. So you are not distracted while driving, Beat the Traffic allows you to set up alerts to warn against potential traffic problems.
• Sigalert – Get all your traffic news live with Sigalert.com. Pulling from state and government traffic data, the app reports speed of traffic and construction work among other delays that could affect your commute time.
• Waze – Work with other drivers to find the best routes and report on traffic delays. Waze records data about your trip such as your route and speed (among other information) then shares that data with other drivers using Waze and vice versa. Another feature is that maps are also continuously being updated by the Waze community, providing the most up to date information.

2. Shortcuts

Whoever said taking shortcuts in life will not get you anywhere must not be from Los Angeles. In this city being in the know of what streets and freeways to take and which ones to avoid can make the difference between being on time and watching the minutes tick by while stationary on the giant parking lot that is the 405. Find a detailed list of shortcuts throughout the city here.

3. Public Transportation

Sometimes the best way to dodge traffic is to steer clear of driving in the first place. Okay, probably not what you wanted to hear, but stop and think of all the positives of using public transportation.

• It will save you money. Taking public transport is about four times cheaper than commuting in your personal vehicle.
• It could improve your health. Those who use public transportation get about three times the amount of physical activity every day than those who do not.
• It is less stressful than driving. Instead, listen to music, catch up on the news, or just slow down for a while and take a break from your hectic day.
• It’s good for the environment. It has been shown that public transportation is at least two times as energy efficient as private vehicles. Hooray for going green!

We Can Help, Too!

A Rewarding Day in SoCal

Here’s a great case study from a recent Los Angeles corporate event we operated out of the Ritz-Carlton Marina Del Rey in February. The event involved LAX airport transfers, shuttles from the Port of Long Beach, as well as onsite teambuilding and decor elements.

The day of events kicked off with our Operation Green Thumb philanthropic teambuilding activity, where participants worked together to create portable gardens that were donated to a local school.

Between the Ritz Carlton staff and our client, we heard a number of compliments on our transformation!”
