1st Quarter Awards: Winning San Diego Event Planners

This week, we’re recognizing some of our favorite San Diego event planners and employees from the first quarter. These “super people” help create The Event Team experience from start to finish. Wherever they are, “superior events” are sure to follow!

Full Time Employee of the Quarter – Bill Yahres, VP Business Development

First up, Bill Yahres is our full time employee of the quarter! Here at The Event Team since 1993, Bill is a veteran among San Diego event planners. (Coincidentally, he’s a also a U.S. Veteran).

“I’ve been impressed with Bill over the last few months,” said President Matt Robbins. “He’s had great success going after Convention business and has proven that his methods work. Also, he shows great leadership and helps broaden our DMC network.”

VP of Sales Romy Linde said, “Bill’s already landed some big clients for 2018. What’s more, he works hard to ensure the success of The Event Team and is a team player.”

Field Staff Employee of the Quarter – Holly Kromroy

Second on our list of winners is Holly Kromroy. Though a relative newbie to The Event Team field staff, Holly has proven herself as an invaluable asset to the Operations Department. We can always rely on her outgoing personality, professionalism, and promptness. Furthermore, Holly’s cheerful onsite demeanor and quick troubleshooting skills give us confidence in the success of every program she works.

Hotelier of the Quarter – Lou Cirelli, Hilton San Diego Resort

Next up, Lou Cirelli, National Sales Manager at Hilton San Diego Resort. “Lou has been a pleasure to work with, and is always available and ready to assist,” said Lauren Ross, National Sales Manager at The Event Team. “He is willing to go the extra mile to accommodate requests, and always has his client’s best interests at heart.”

Finally, Stacy Drayne at Half Door Brewing is our vendor of the quarter. This small but inviting brewery in East Village is a favorite stop on our Trolley ‘n Taps tour. Not only is Stacy is a gem  to work with, she also accommodates our groups expertly. Stacy’s professionalism and flexibility make her a gem among San Diego event planners. When it comes to craft beer knowledge, her team’s expertise ensures a great experience to our guests.

2016 Fourth Quarter Awards Announced

What a better way to close out the year than with a list of some super people? The following 4th Quarter award recipients truly helped The Event Team shine in 2016:

Full Time Employee of the Quarter – Romy Linde, Director of Sales

Romy leads the company in sales, but she also leads in other ways. Besides managing her own accounts, she also creates sales strategies, trains and mentors her colleagues, facilitates meeetings, and more. “Romy had a fabulous year,” said President/CEO Matt Robbins. “She has been an integral part of our team for nearly 15 years and continues to evolve in her position. I’m very proud of her and can’t wait to see her 2017 sales plan in action.”

Marnie continues to be a pillar of the The Event Team field staff. When she is assigned to an event, she always arrives on time, with a happy, positive attitude and always goes above and beyond to make sure the guests and clients have a great experience. VP of Operations Paige Weeber sings Marnie’s praises: “It doesn’t matter if it is a small Gaslamp transfer or a huge off-site event; Marnie ensures that everyone has a good time to and from an event. Her reliability, positive attitude, and ability to think quickly on her feet made her an easy candidate for Employee of the Quarter.” Thank you Marnie for all you do for The Event Team!

Hotelier of the Quarter – Khoa Hoang, Westin San Diego

We love all our hotel partners, but this quarter Khoa Hoang from Westin San Diego was particularly exceptional. “Khoa is a very detail-oriented convention services manager and a tremendous pleasure to work with,” said National Sales Manager Steve Larson. “She is very informative about her clients’ needs and always available at a moment’s notice!” Thank you Khoa for trusting The Event Team to work with you and your clients – you can count on us!

Last but definitely not least is our wonderful vendor of the quarter. Peggy Jewell of Innovative Entertainment is one of our most valued vendor partners. “Most groups want entertainment at their events but don’t always know what they want,” said Weeber. “With just a few details, Peggy and her team always put together great suggestions and always include a few “out of the box” ideas to keep our proposals fresh and up to date for clients. He hasn’t even been here a year, and he was just announced Full Time Employee of the Third Quarter. That, friends, is how National Sales Manager Steve Larson gets it DONE! Ever since Steve joined the team, he has been running on all cylinders, spearheading much of our San Diego hotel reach-out. “Steve has made a big impact with local hotels,” said President Matt Robbins. “It takes a while for a new sales person to understand and sell everything a DMC offers but Steve has learned it very quickly. He has taken his good standing in the community and used it to make a lot of great connections for The Event Team.”

Los Angeles Field Staff Appreciation and Forum

Congratulations are in order to The Event Team’s stellar Operations Department for organizing last week’s successful Los Angeles Field Staff Appreciation and Forum at the Original Farmers Market in L.A. The forum offered a chance for some of the executives from our San Diego headquarters to meet and greet with our valued Los Angeles field staff, show their appreciation, and open up a dialogue on ways the company can improve communication and quality of service in hopes of creating an even better experience for our corporate event clients.

According to Los Angeles Operations Manager Marcie Booth, “The L.A. Staff Appreciation and Forum was a great way for us to kick off the new year!  It’s a very rare opportunity to have so many field staff in one room to discuss the industry trends, new venues and vendors, and changes throughout the city, so the forum was beneficial for both new and old staff, as well as our Operations Department.  I think the most important aspect of the day was sharing and showing our appreciation for our amazing staff!  I really cannot say thank you enough to them for working every program with professionalism, eagerness, flexibility, and mostly, great expertise; they really are an integral part of The Event Team!”

Matt Robbins, CEO, shared his thoughts as well: “This forum was an excellent opportunity to show appreciation for our L.A. field staff and listen to their input as we continue to grow our presence in that region. I am very proud of Marcie and the entire Operations team for organizing such a great event!”

The event was well-received by our field staff as well. Longtime team member Brenda Horton said, “Thank all of you for the very informative meeting and a very big thank you for my raffle gifts.” Bette Ireson echoed, “I want to thank you all for the wonderful meeting you provided us at the Farmer’s Market. It was certainly informative and very interesting.”

Employee, Vendor and Hotelier of the Quarter Announced

Every quarter, The Event Team is proud to recognize a few “super people” who have contributed to our company’s success in a huge way. Our destination management company relies on great relationships with vendors, staff, and hoteliers to ensure successful programs and happy clients. The following recipients helped knock our second quarter out of the park:

Full Time Employee of the Quarter: Romy Linde, Director of Sales
Everyone knows Romy travels (and sells programs) at the speed of light, but somehow she’s managed to kick into yet another gear, selling 64% of our total business for the second quarter! During this quarter she also hit $2 million for the year putting her at about 57% of our 2015 business. On top of this, she helped organize an extensive multi-day site for RIMS along with various other client meetings and sites, all while continuing to provide amazing service to her hotel partners. As busy as she is, she still manages to keep her friendly demeanor and never forgets her sense of humor.
Field Staff Employee of the Quarter: Chris Chung
Chris Chung is new to The Event Team, but not a stranger to the DMC world. Previously a General Manager for several HGA offices, he brings a wealth of knowledge and professionalism to our tour staff. Many fellow staff have commented how calm Chris is – even in a tough situation – and how easy he is to work with.  Chris is an asset to The Event Team and any program/event.

Romy Linde has worked closely with Jamie through the years, and offered these thoughts: “I have known Jamie for a long time and I love her energy and spark for life. Jamie is an amazing Sales Manager and I can see that her clients respect her and enjoy working with her on programs. Jamie works hard and always has a smile on her face!”

Studio AD is a longtime valued partner to The Event Team. Ashley Dimond and her team are always willing to help our company win the business with their creative proposals and “out of the box” designs.
