8 Trending San Diego Event Venues

While team building is a major focus this year, we’re still your go-to experts for San Diego event venues. Since securing event space is a crucial first step, we’ve curated a list of 8 trending venue options for your next corporate event.

Popular San Diego Event Venues

Hotel Terrace or Ballroom

Sometimes it’s ideal to utilize a blank canvas approach with a hotel’s terrace or ballroom. From Modern Moroccan Nights at L’Auberge Del Mar, to Glow Parties at Hard Rock Hotel (see below), The Event Team can bring any concept to life. Not to mention, staying on property eliminates transportation costs!

Beach Bash

Gone are the carting a keg out to the beach with 50 of your closest friends. New regulations make it harder than ever to secure beach event permitting in San Diego. Trust us, you don’t want high tide waves or low patience park rangers crashing the party. Choose a waterfront hotel (Paradise Point Resort or Hotel Del Coronado are excellent options), or opt for a state beach adjacent to the Pacific Coast Highway (see below).

Poolside Chic

When it comes to elegant San Diego event venues, poolside parties are everything, dahhhhhhling. Add chic decor, market string lights, and a classy guitarist, and you’re all set for a posh poolside affair. Below, catch a glimpse of our latest poolside event at Paradise Point Resort. Additionally, we can utilize pools as a performance venue for themed entertainment, like this Vintage Carnival Circus event at Omni La Costa, for example.

San Diego Zoo Events

Next, let’s take a look at some of San Diego’s most famous attractions, starting with the world-renowned San Diego Zoo. The sprawling facility offers several event venues to choose from; one of our favorites is Sabertooth Grill at the Elephant Odyssey exhibit (see below for recent highlights). Also, we can’t wait for this summer’s debut of “Africa Rocks,” a new 8-acre exhibit and event space.

MCAS Miramar & Officer’s Club

If you feel the need for speed, look no further than MCAS Miramar, where you can host your very own Top Gun party. Depending on your group size, host your event in the Hangar bay or at the famed Officer’s Club. Throw in flight simulators, custom dog tags, hangar tours, and a performance by our Maverick and Goose lookalikes, and you’ve got yourself a memorable hybrid of history and pop culture.

Doubling as both restaurant and nightclub, this popular Gaslamp venue packs a high energy one-two punch. Guests can enjoy a swanky seated dinner before heading to the club for DJs, drinks, and dancing. Theme options and decor concepts abound at Parq; check out this Carnival-inspired event below!

San Diego Air & Space Museum

If science and history resonate more closely with your group than nightlife, we suggest the San Diego Air & Space Museum for its impressive collection of replicas, artifacts, and exhibits. In short, this venue sure puts the “space” in event space.

USS Midway Museum

This “city at sea” features simultaneous views of sea, skyline, and sunset. As one of San Diego’s largest venues, the ship easily accommodates thousands. Peep some of our favorite events aboard the USS Midway Museum below!

Downtown Los Angeles Spotlight: Ace Hotel, The Broad, and Clifton’s Cafeteria

Last week, our team explored bustling downtown Los Angeles, a region on the rise for corporate groups. Here are a few highlights from their site visit:

Ace Hotel

Ace Hotel is located in the historic United Artists building , built in 1927. Opened in 2014, the property features modern rooms, a rooftop pool, trendy event space, and a beautifully restored theatre. Think Great Gatsby meets Urban Outfitters.

The Broad

New to the downtown Los Angeles scene, The Broad is a contemporary art museum founded by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad. Located on Grand Ave, the Broad is home to an ever-growing collection of postwar and contemporary art. Private venue rental for corporate events is not an option at The Broad; however, the adjacent Otium restaurant has several private event spaces including a buyout option for up to 300 guests.

Clifton’s Cafeteria

Los Angeles Times put it best when they said “Clifton’s is not your normal cafeteria.”  After a 5-year, $10 million renovation, Clifton’s Cafeteria reopened in October 2015 (the original debuted in 1935). Featuring a fake redwood tree stretching five floors, a kingdom of taxidermy creatures, and plenty of entertaining surprises in its “cabinet of curiosities,” the venue provides an assortment of wonderfully weird conversation topics.

Modern Moroccan Decor

Event Decor Spotlight: Modern Moroccan Bohemian Blend

Ever been to an event that’s a little too theme-y? When it comes to themed corporate event decor, there seems to be a delicate tipping point between “wow” and “what the?” Themed events are a fun and focused way to emphasize specific destinations, venues, trending pop culture topics, and/or the overall message and purpose of your meeting. There’s no question themes are a powerful vehicle to deliver an experience to your guests. But here’s a tip from your favorite destination management company: Always let the experience steer that vehicle, and don’t ever let the theme crash the party.

Take this recent client event at L’Auberge Del Mar‘s beautiful terrace. Since it was a heavy networking event with several interactive elements at play, we wanted those experiential elements to take center stage. In addition to a networking game, guests enjoyed tequila tasting, s’mores stations, music from songwriter Michael Tiernan, and a live art show by artist/designer Taylor Reeve. Raffle tickets were sold to win the finished painting, with all proceeds going to local non-profit Operation Amped.

Interactive S'mores Station
For decor The Event Team blended popular trends, creating a Moroccan-Bohemian theme that played a supporting role to all the interactive enhancements without overpowering the entire event. Modern lounge pieces with bold and vivid Moroccan-inspired accents (lanterns, printed rugs and linens, etc.) were paired with Bohemian-style embellishments (market string lights, oversize pillows, wood, succulents, etc.) to create a subtly beautiful backdrop for this classy beachfront affair.

The result? Happy hotel partners and clients! Check out what L’Auberge Del Mar’s National Sales Manager Jamie Lee Clave had to say after the event:

“Words can’t even begin to describe how happy we we’re with the turnout of last night’s event.  The style and decor, the amazing market lighting…  We’re seriously over the moon today!  Thank you again for all of your hard work and for showcasing L’Auberge Del Mar in the highest regard.  We had some happy customers last night and hopefully you found more business based upon what you created.  Thank you for your partnership, creativity and for all you do.”

Onsite and Offsite Events

To kick off the program, we provided Welcome Reception entertainment by local Spanish/Flamenco artist David De Alva.

Our first offsite program took place at the famous MCAS Miramar Officers’ Club. After a tour of the flight line, guests mixed and mingled with military patrons while enjoying a cocktail reception and dinner on the patio. The Event Team provided elegant décor as well as acoustic entertainment from the Nate Donnis Trio.

Our final offsite event was a buyout of the popular La Jolla restaurant Eddie V’s where guests enjoyed tray-passed appetizers and a delicious four-course seated dinner.

We asked our VP of Operations Paige Weeber to share some of her post-event notes with us:

“One challenge was to keep the teens entertained but also to allow them some “freedom” since they don’t need to be babysat. Our team is knowledgeable in current trends and Hollywood Game Night was a big hit! They also just wanted to be able to lounge at the pool, so we hired a lifeguard to be onsite at the pool all day to keep an eye on the kids, which also allowed the parents to feel comfortable leaving them “alone” on property.

“The client wanted to have a fun day at the beach and also be able to offer water sports to the group. Our team was able to secure a permit at the beach (no small feat during summer!) and we worked with a few local vendors to have kayaking, snorkel equipment and surf lessons available to the group at various times during the afternoon. Surfing was so popular, some guests took lessons twice in one day!”

Happy Client

All in all, this was a great event that really helped The Event Team sharpen our skills with Corporate-Family hybrid events. And the best part was – we made our client happy! Check out what she had to say:

Event Spotlight: Onsite and Offsite Decor in Orange County

Romy, Paige and crew recently organized a wonderful event for our group of 200 guests staying at Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel. The four-day event had many moving parts – from airport arrivals and departures to several group tours that showcased an array of Orange County’s popular recreational activities: Duffy Boats in Newport Beach, Dolphin Safari in Dana Point, and an art tour of Laguna Beach.

The Event Team also provided simple, elegant onsite decor and entertainment for the group’s welcome reception, which took place at the hotel’s Promenade Lawn and Promenade Ballroom:IMG_3213

Two days later, our destination management company shuttled the group to beautiful Mission San Juan Capistrano for an offsite party, where we provided decor and character “monk” actors who greeted the guests upon arrival.
