4 Fun and Simple Ice Breaker Games for Networking Events

Last week we provided suggestions for awesome corporate event venues and decor. This week we’re diving into the attendee experience. While some folks find it easy to strike up a conversation, others may feel overwhelmed or awkward. As event professionals, it’s our job to make networking as easy, natural, and fun as possible for all our guests, even the wallflowers. Here’s a look at a 4 Fun and Simple Ice Breaker Games:

1. Cocktail Trivia

Don’t worry, it’s not that kind of drinking game. But let’s face it, alcohol often plays an important role in networking events. This quick and simple activity challenges guests to find out fun info about the drinking preferences of their colleagues. We also like to tie the game into the event’s theme or venue. For example, the below event embraced San Diego’s recent “Tiki Takeover.” If your group isn’t into drinking, not to worry. We happily customize according to your specific demographic, venue, or theme!

2. Samesies

Like our last activity, this ice breaker game also involves “interviewing” other attendees. However, Samesies takes it one step further. Now you must find people who have the same answers as you! Again, we love to create different variations based on your demographic, venue, theme, etc.

3. Getting to Know You Bingo

There’s a reason it’s one of the oldest ice breaker games in the books…it’s highly effective, and people love shouting in triumph when they complete a task! Bingo is a great activity to utilize in cases where you can gather interesting information about attendees prior to the event.  These tiny topics help blow conversations wide open and often result in amazing connections between guests. To keep the game from feeling stale, we also like to include a few simple trivia questions and physical challenges.ice breaker games - beer bingo

4. Name Games

Nearly all of us have experienced that agonozing moment – we should know a colleague’s name, but we get caught checking their name badge. The shame! Joking aside, our Name Games actually encourage the name badge stare-down and provide quick and natural conversation starters for even the shyest of guests. The below example utilizes yearbook-style superlatives as a prompt, but the creative options are endlessly customizable.

One of our newest CSR team building activities is our music-focused Rock Against the Clock. First, participants compete against one another in a variety of challenges to earn the missing pieces of their guitars. Once assembly is complete, teams will play a song using a tablet and instructional apps. After the mini-concert, a representative from a local Boys & Girls Club (and possibly some youth participants) will accept the group’s donation.

3 Popular Outdoor San Diego Team Building Events

This week, we’re showcasing three of our most popular outdoor San Diego team building events. First off, let’s start by giving props to SoCal weather for allowing us to provide these programs year-round. Next, let’s take a look at some of the best ways to build team spirit while soaking up the San Diego sun!

Beach Olympics / Corporate Castaways

While our beach team building programs are structured similarly, they can be themed to match an Olympic or castaways style. (So basically, tell us if you prefer a regular volleyball or Wilson). Here’s a look at a recent beach event that we operated last month at Paradise Point Resort and Spa.

You Build It Boats

While we have hosted several You Build it Boats events on the beach, clients sometimes opt to “race” their final creations in the on-property pool. Naturally, this makes for hilarious competition! Check out our favorite moments from a recent You Build it Boats at Hyatt Regency Mission Bay.

Gaslamp Adventure Rally / Smart Phone Scavenger Hunt

Last but not least, may be suggest a Smart Phone scavenger hunt? Guests always have a great time in the Gaslamp, seeking out historic attractions, posing in front of famous venues, and even performing random acts of kindness. Also keep in mind that The Event Team can customize a San Diego scavenger hunt just for you.

Team Building San Diego – Charity Bike Builds are Back

Hear ye, hear ye! Charity Bike Builds are back, and they’re better than ever! We kicked off 2017 with an impressive array of team building San Diego events, but one of the biggest highlights was our recent Charity Bike Build program at the Hard Rock Hotel. It’s true, bike-building events can be seen as somewhat of a dinosaur in the team building industry. But The Event Team bike builds remain popular for several reasons:

team building san diego bike build

High Energy Games and Friendly Competition

We believe great charity team building events are all about achieving results via experience. Whether you’re building bikes for youth organizations or assembling care packages for military families, we do more than just put you to work. We utilize dynamic facilitators and high-energy games to create a friendly but competitive atmosphere.

San Diegans Love Their Bikes

Don’t get us wrong, we want every child in the world to have a bike (and a puppy while we’re making wishes). But for team building San Diego events, bike builds especially make a lot of sense considering we enjoy some of the best biking conditions in the country. San Diego enjoys around 265 sunny days per year, plus we are one of the Top 10 “Greenest” cities in the country. Biking is practically in our DNA.

Direct and Immediate Impact

At the very least, we invite a representative from our local youth organization to accept your donation and speak on behalf of the recipients. In many cases, the children are able to attend the event and directly receive the bikes. So many of today’s kiddos don’t get a fair chance at a carefree childhood. While our Charity Bike Build program might not be the newest team building idea, it offers one of the best rewards possible: putting smiles on children’s faces.
