Southern California is known for its sunny outdoors and luxurious lifestyle. Here in San Diego, there are many local activities and specialized tours to satisfy any VIP client’s spouse tour needs. Here are just a few of our favorite things to do in San Diego:

There are few places in the world that would allow you to see the whales of the Arctic, visit the lions of the Sahara, and experience aviary hunters first hand. The only place where you can do all three and more? San Diego. Wiggle into a wetsuit and interact with the snowy white beluga whales at SeaWorld San Diego. This special interaction allows you to experience cold weather creatures up close within their habitats.

That’s SoCal: Anaheim Event Venues

Last week, we recommended some of our favorite San Diego event venues. This week we’re zeroing in on Anaheim, a frequent destination for corporate travelers from around the world. Undoubtedly, luxury hotels, iconic theme parks, trendy restaurants, and massive stadiums factor into Anaheim’s popularity. While there’s no shortage of Anaheim event venues to choose from, we’ve highlighted some of our recent favs below.

Anaheim Packing District

First let’s explore Anaheim Packing District, the newly renovated downtown gathering place. Highlights include The Packing House, which harbors Cooks Chapel (a community kitchen and event space), and The Backyard outdoor venue. Here, visitors can sample 20+ artisan eateries, wine-taste in a 1920’s railroad boxcar appropriately named The BXCR, or experience out of this world mixology at The Blind Rabbit. In short, these Anaheim event venues truly pack a punch!

Craft Beer Scene

Like its San Diegan neighbors to the south, Anaheim is “hopping” back on board the craft beer scene. Actually, brewing beer is in Anaheim’s roots (German colonials brewed here as early as 1870). Now, the resurrected Anaheim Brewery, Backstreet Brewery, and Bottle Logic Brewing are just some of the local breweries we recommend. These casual Anaheim event venues provide the perfect respite for groups looking to take a break after a long day of meetings.

Sports Stadiums

Now a little something for the Sports fans! Here in Orange County, locals cheer for their MLB Angels and NHL Ducks. And where there are major sports teams, there are major stadium venues. Hence, a diverse selection of function space at Angel Stadium and Honda Center. For example, meeting planners can opt for a catered game-day experience for small VIP groups. Or, for large convention groups, we suggest a full venue buyout with private tours and big name entertainment.

Taryn’s To Do List: 4 “Unexpectedly San Diego” Autumn Traditions

Even though San Diego usually lives up to its reputation for perfectly sunny year-round weather, its residents still look forward to fall. Our Southern California destination hosts many events during the autumn months to get you in the mood for scarves, stretchy pants, and pumpkin spice everything. Here is Taryn’s take on a few “unexpectedly San Diego” fall traditions that you should add to your social calendar:

1. A Slice of Autumn in Julian

A scenic day trip to the charming and historic city of Julian (our friendly neighbors to the Northeast) is the perfect way to fall into fall. Choose from picnics, horseback-riding, wine-tasting, museums, or window-shopping on Main Street. You can also opt to wander the apple orchards and learn how to make delicious cider. Whatever you decide, do not, we repeat, do not leave town without eating a slice (or three) of Julian’s famous apple pie. The great news? It’s never too cold to order a la mode.

2. Take Your Pick at Bates Nut Farm

Over 50 years of fall traditions and memories have been created at the Bates Nut Farm Pumpkin Patch. From now until October 31, family and friends can enjoy tractor hayrides, a straw maze, a petting corral, and pony rides for the kiddos. Grab a wheelbarrow and pick from a variety of pumpkins, squash, gourds and other fall décor. In addition, weekends at Bates include live entertainment, food trucks, and other family-friendly activities.

3. Go for the Gridiron

Padres regular season is set to end next week, but don’t fret, sports fans. You can take that foam finger and head across town to Qualcomm Stadium to cheer on your Chargers or the San Diego State Aztecs. Stick around til December to watch top teams from the Pac-12 and Big 12 conferences compete in the 36th annual National University Holiday Bowl (December 30th) or Mountain West champs square off against the Army Black Knights in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl (December 23). Stay afterwards to witness the Stadium Spectacular fireworks show.

4. Cheers to Beers

Okay, you picked out a pumpkin, you pet some farm animals, you had your family fun. Time to drop off the kids and put on your party pants. We take our beer-brewing seriously in this town, so it’s no surprise to see local Oktoberfest events popping up all over San Diego. We suggest that you call up your favorite designated driver and hop all over town to see which neighborhood can out-German the other. Prefer your pints without a polka overdose? Hold off until November and go to San Diego Beer Week instead.

As you can see, San Diegans make up for a lack of seasonal weather with sheer enthusiasm and commitment to sweating profusely in our cutest boots. If your corporate group is visiting town this fall, don’t hesitate to contact The Event Team destination management company for a selection of autumn-themed event, decor and activity ideas. But don’t worry…we solemnly swear to never take surf lessons or beach parties off the table.

State of Affairs

1. Suzie’s Farm is a 140-acre organic farm located thirteen miles south of downtown San Diego . If you’re looking for a fresh take on the farmers market, head to Suzie’s Farm and discover a huge source of produce for many farm-to-table restaurants in La Jolla, the Gaslamp, and more. Take a tour, attend a seasonal event, and bring home some fresh fruits and veggies for your next delicious organic locally-grown meal!

2. As summer quickly approaches, outdoor parties and festivities kick into high gear. The Deck at Moonshine Flats may be located in the bustling Gaslamp District, but it maintains a refreshingly casual and fun atmosphere. With a retractable roof, a 22-foot indoor tree, and classic backyard style games like beer pong and corn hole, The Deck is certainly in our win column.

3. For all you thrill-seekers, take a spin on the Patriot Jet Boat. This 50mph speed demon zips and twists around San Diego Bay from Seaport Village to Coronado. Think of it as extreme sightseeing. But don’t worry; if you miss something, the Patriot turns 180-degress on a dime – so be ready to do some double-takes!

Balboa Park Centennial Celebration:
Fall in love with the romantic art and architecture of Balboa Park. The park’s year-long Centennial Celebration in is full swing including the re-opening of California Tower; open to the public for the first time since 1935. Head to the Museum of Man and climb the seven floors of spiral metal staircase to reveal what is arguably the best view of Balboa Park and the surrounding area.

Whale Watching Season:
As Southern California’s version of a winter fades away, so begins the season for another kind of tourist wave…Over 20,000 gray whales make their 10,000 mile round-trip journey from Alaska to the warms waters Baja California to give birth to their calves. With numerous whale watching tours and ships available, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity that shouldn’t be missed!

San Diego Waterfront Park:
Many folks that live or visit San Diego County do not realize the amount of acreage dedicated to parks and reserved lands. Take advantage of the spring sun at Waterfront Park on Pacific Highway. The beauty of the shoreline meeting downtown city lights is certainly something to experience.
