2016 Fourth Quarter Awards Announced

What a better way to close out the year than with a list of some super people? The following 4th Quarter award recipients truly helped The Event Team shine in 2016:

Full Time Employee of the Quarter – Romy Linde, Director of Sales

Romy leads the company in sales, but she also leads in other ways. Besides managing her own accounts, she also creates sales strategies, trains and mentors her colleagues, facilitates meeetings, and more. “Romy had a fabulous year,” said President/CEO Matt Robbins. “She has been an integral part of our team for nearly 15 years and continues to evolve in her position. I’m very proud of her and can’t wait to see her 2017 sales plan in action.”

Field Staff Employee of the Quarter – Marnie Buddo

Marnie continues to be a pillar of the The Event Team field staff. When she is assigned to an event, she always arrives on time, with a happy, positive attitude and always goes above and beyond to make sure the guests and clients have a great experience. VP of Operations Paige Weeber sings Marnie’s praises: “It doesn’t matter if it is a small Gaslamp transfer or a huge off-site event; Marnie ensures that everyone has a good time to and from an event. Her reliability, positive attitude, and ability to think quickly on her feet made her an easy candidate for Employee of the Quarter.” Thank you Marnie for all you do for The Event Team!

Hotelier of the Quarter – Khoa Hoang, Westin San Diego

We love all our hotel partners, but this quarter Khoa Hoang from Westin San Diego was particularly exceptional. “Khoa is a very detail-oriented convention services manager and a tremendous pleasure to work with,” said National Sales Manager Steve Larson. “She is very informative about her clients’ needs and always available at a moment’s notice!” Thank you Khoa for trusting The Event Team to work with you and your clients – you can count on us!

Vendor of the Quarter – Innovative Entertainment

Last but definitely not least is our wonderful vendor of the quarter. Peggy Jewell of Innovative Entertainment is one of our most valued vendor partners. “Most groups want entertainment at their events but don’t always know what they want,” said Weeber. “With just a few details, Peggy and her team always put together great suggestions and always include a few “out of the box” ideas to keep our proposals fresh and up to date for clients. Also, her team is always available, and their onsite presence is always appreciated to keep the talent on track.” Thank you Peggy for all your years of partnership and friendship!

3 Corporate Event Photography and Videography Trends in Southern California

As Southern California’s corporate event experts, The Event Team DMC always recommends event photography services to our meeting planner clients. With so many affordable and unique event photography options to choose from, why not capture every memorable moment? We’ve taken the liberty of rounding up a few of our favorite photography and videography trends for your perusing pleasure.

1. Drone Cinematography

If your meeting or convention is held in the same location every year, drone cinematography is a great way to engage with current and future attendees. Southern California is beautiful anyway you look at it, but aerial footage of the region is simply stunning. Drone services can offer a wonderful re-cap of your event, while simultaneously providing a marketing tool for next year’s conference. Worried about permitting issues? Leave that to us. Our full service destination management team can do all the research to make sure your drone stays out of  a no-fly zone.

2. GIF Photobooths

GIFs – who knew?! What started as a snarky trend in Meme-ville wound up being an incredible asset to the event community. GIF photobooths are a funky way to incorporate event branding and social media marketing into your theme party. Minimal setup and hours of fun…what’s not to love?

3. Vintage VW Photobus

Nothing quite captures the laid-back surf vibe of Southern California like a Vintage VW Photobus. Sometimes we event planners tend to set up bulky photobooths in some leftover corner of the venue that won’t cause a pile-up at the meat-carving station. This beauty, on the other hand, demands attention and may very well deserve front-and-center placement as your entrance piece. When photography poses as decor, we can’t complain.

6 Last Minute Ideas for your Office Holiday Party

If you’re feeling a little Ho Ho Hum about this year’s office holiday party, don’t fret! The Event Team is here with 6 last minute ideas to help make your event merry and bright:

1. Santa’s Workshop: Cookie-Decorating and Wreath-Making Stations

Whether or not their DIY game is on point, guests always appreciate interactive stations at work parties because they offer an opportunity to do something other than make awkward conversation about their holiday travel plans. Station options include cookie-decorating, wreath-assembly, ornament design, and more!

christmas gingerbread cookies with spices, frost and decorations

2. Reindeer Games: Merry Minute to Win It and Caroling Karaoke

If your team is a more competitive bunch, we suggest hosting a good old fashioned holiday game night. Divide guests into teams and battle against the clock in a series of holiday-themed challenges in our Merry Minute to Win It game. After everyone has enough egg nog (aka liquid courage) break out the karaoke machine for our Caroling Karaoke competition.

3. Deck the Halls: Venue Selection and Holiday Decor Themes

Opt for all the traditional holiday trimmings, or get creative with a decor theme that matches your city, venue, or company brand. Some suggestions include a Christmas Beach Party theme at an oceanfront venue, a Winter Funderland circus/carnival theme at a local children’s museum, or a spooky Nightmare Before Christmas theme at a private estate.

4. The GIF that Keeps on GIFing: Festive Photobooths

Photobooths continue to be all the rage at corporate events, and for good reason. Where else can you don a Santa hat and Groucho Marx glasses at the same time? There are no shortage of awesome photobooth variations to choose from. The Event Team can you hook you up with greenscreens, slow motion videos, light painting, photo flipbooks, and the ever-popular GIF booth, to name a few.

5. Do You Hear What I Hear: Carolers and Drummer Boys

Liven up your event with the sights and sounds of professional holiday musicians and entertainers. The carolers, drummer boys, children’s choirs, etc., have been practicing all year for this. Spreading cheer for all to hear is a job they take seriously, and your party will be better for it.

6. That’s a Wrap: Volunteering and Holiday Bonding Activities

If a holiday party didn’t quite make it on your 2016 wishlist, there are still ways to sprinkle a little joy throughout your company. Take a day out of the office and volunteer your time toward a local community program. Gift-wrapping donated toys for youth outreach organizations or assembling  military care packages are perfect options for this time of year. The Event Team can also arrange a casual bonding activity for your team, such as a local brewery tour or a friendly game of footgolf (our team just did this last week and had a blast!).

Teambuilding Spotlight: Tried and True, Fresh and New

The Event Team is pulling into the homestretch of 2016 with a focus on teambuilding. In addition to operating some of our most popular programs, we’re also continuing to broaden our teambuilding repertoire by investigating the newest trends in corporate event networking and group bonding activities. Here’s a quick glimpse of our recent events and findings!

Tried and True: Olympics in San Diego, CA

Earlier this month, The Event Team organized a casual Olympics teambuilding activity in La Jolla Cove for a small group of 24 attendees staying at the Grande Colonial. We offer several variations of this program depending on the group’s desired level of physical activity as well as the client’s goals, objectives, and budget. This particular interpretation, while not too physically demanding, was engaging and hilarious nonetheless. Activities included puzzles, giant Jenga, rubber chicken archery (it’s as funny as it sounds).

Tride and True: Iron Chef in Los Angeles, CA

Last week, the Los Angeles team put together a appetizing Iron Chef event and catered lunch for a corporate group of 25 local guests at an offsite venue called Foothill Kitchens. Donning their aprons and chef hats, each team worked together to create and present an original dish to our expert chef/judge.

Fresh and New: Vertical Board Games

This new networking trend is a wonderful and entertaining way to encourage socializing at a corporate function. Classic and modern board games (everything from Candyland to Cards Against Humanity) are suspended on magnetic, vertical boards. Whether attendees are complete strangers or go way back, these games are a perfect way to facilitate networking and develop relationships without the awkward small talk or the aggressive sales pitch. Guests can play on their leisure, or we can offer several formal teambuilding variations complete with scorekeeping and prizes. The setup is not only fun; it’s functional. Each board is double-sided which allows for groups of up to 8 to be socializing around each table. Since all elements of the game (board, game pieces, timers) are suspended on a vertical plane, there is plenty of room on each table for food and drinks. Boards can be branded with company logos or event hashtags, and they also are a great way to post or distribute information, business cards, brochures, and the like.

The Event Team - Vertical Board Games

Fresh and New: Style Your Soles CSR Program

This trending corproate teambuilding event combines art, fashion, philanthropy, and fun. Teams are given a designated number of TOMS blank canvas shoes and are challenged with the task of creating their own line of shoes using fabric markers, stencils, and other decorations. Teams must market and pitch their shoe line as well. At the end of the competition, a winner is decided based on best design and presentation. A representative from a local charity will be onsite to accept the donation. As if the event wasn’t cool enough, TOMS also matches your local donation with additional pairs given to children in Africa, Asia or South America.
