San Diego Office Welcomes Two National Sales Managers

The Event Team is proud to announce the addition of two new National Sales Managers to our San Diego destination management team. Earlier this month, we interviewed for a vacant Sales Manager position after Rachel Horgan relocated to the Pacific Northwest (her natural habitat of hats and scarves). Both Lauren Ross and Steve Larson made it to the final round of interviews. We couldn’t bear to see one of them go, so we hired both! This decision immediately paid off in spades , especially considering our Director of Sales Romy Linde surprised us by going into labor a few weeks before her due date. (Welcome to the world, Sloane Aubrey Linde!). Only a few weeks of training in, Lauren and Steve are already off to the races – taking over accounts, prospecting new business, developing relationships with clients and industry partners, going on site visits, and fitting right into our tight-knit TET family.

About Lauren Ross

The Event Team - Lauren RossLauren is a San Diego native. She received her BA in theatre at UCLA. After college, she quickly returned to San Diego where she worked in the cosmetics industry as a make-up artist while attending SDSU for an MA in Art History. After completing her MA, Lauren began her corporate sales career for Laura Mercier Cosmetics where she grew in her role from Territory Manager to Account Executive. Lauren also teaches a Prehistoric to Gothic art class at Mesa College.

Our president and CEO Matt Robbins was immediately impressed with Lauren’s personality and interview skills. “Lauren had an air about her that immediately connected with everyone in our office and that is an attribute that is impossible to teach, but is the essence of all great sales people,” he said. “I always believed in hiring for attitude because the rest can be learned. Lauren has already taken on programs and met with clients in only her third week. She seems like she has been doing this job for years.”

We asked Lauren what made her want to enter the destination management industry and join The Event Team. Her response: The glamour and glitter, fashion and fame! Ok, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but honestly the ‘fun factor’ of the industry appealed to me. I love that I am working on programs and events that create happy memories for groups visiting our beautiful city. The Event Team’s personalized approach and professionalism with their clients appealed to me. The team made me feel so welcome throughout my interview process. I knew I’d found my new work home.”

About Steve Larson

The Event Team - Steve LarsonSteve joins The Event Team after 17 years in the San Diego hotel industry, most recently working as Director of Sales for The Lafayette Hotel. He is a Certified Government Meeting Professional (CGMP) and holds a BS in Communications from the University of Arizona and is originally from Tucson, AZ.

Matt Robbins was delighted to welcome such a qualified candidate to the team. “Steve was the Sales Manager candidate that we dreamed we would find,” said Matt. “Well-connected in the community, hotel experience; great San Diego contacts, DMC knowledge, and a friendly down-to-earth person who would fit in well with our team. Steve has already jumped in feet first and I know he will be a valuable part of our team for years to come.”

Steve elaborated on his choice to transition into the destination management industry: “I was on the hotel side for almost 17 years and worked with DMCs throughout that time. With The Event Team, my tasks and responsibilities are different every day, and I have the opportunity to work with multiple hotels and venues rather than selling/representing one place. When the opportunity presented itself I jumped on it and here I am!”
