There’s a never a bad time to host a meeting or event in San Diego, but there is something extra special about visiting during spring and summer. As 2017 takes bloom, The Event Team DMC has prepared a sampling of the freshest spring/summer San Diego activities. Take a peak below!
Africa Rocks at San Diego Zoo
The World Famous San Diego Zoo is a longtime favorite among meeting planners in search of exciting San Diego activities. Now there’s even more to be excited about! This summer, San Diego Zoo will open a new exhibit titled “Conrad Prebys Africa Rocks.” Featuring a fully reconstructed eight-acre exhibit, Africa Rocks will showcase diverse regions of Africa’s habitats, “from Savanna to Sea.” Residents to the exhibit will include baboons, leopards, lemurs, endangered African penguins, and more. In addition, fresh event venue options are also in the works. (Contact us for the scoop!)
Ocean Explorer at SeaWorld San Diego
Mission Bay’s SeaWorld San Diego will also unveil new features in the coming months. “Ocean Explorer” is a 3-acre project centered on deep-sea discovery and ocean protection. The site will showcase fascinating marine life such as Pacific octopus, elusive moray eels, and Japanese spider crabs. Additionally, three new family-friendly rides are in the works. Since corporate events are increasingly offering child-inclusive options, “Ocean Explorer” will definitely benefit meeting planners as a go-to for creative children’s programming.
Returning to downtown San Diego this July, the 48th annual Comic Con event will likely attract a swarm of hungry pop culture fans, party goers, and exhibitors to the Gaslamp District. Several new San Diego activities, hotels, venues, and restaurants will be up and running by then. Two “new kids” to look out for:
The Pendry – After a much anticipated wait, this luxury hotel opened in February. Besides superior rooms, the property houses over 35,000 square feet of meeting space and several unique restaurants and bars. Most noteworthy options include Lionfish (modern coastal), Provisional (So-Cal Seasonal fare), Nason’s Beer Hall (craft brews), and Oxford Social Club (nightclub).
Punch Bowl Social – A whopping 20,000-square-feet of “eatertainment” space is coming to the six-block Makers Quarter hub in the East Village, summer 2017. As at other Punchbowl locations, guests will appreciate “new” old-school ways of playing vintage games like Ping-Pong and Skee-Ball while eating homemade gourmet comfort food. Punchbowl will allow your corporate clients to transform a simple business brunch into a fun bowling party or karaoke competition. Unique and creative possibilities make this a must-see venue for your next San Diego site inspection.
