What Was Your Career Path to the Glamorous DMC World?
Started out as a a sweeping success at Universal Studios.
(Business was picking up).
Became a tour guide at Universal for many years.
(My brush with fame and fortune).
After San Diego State, I worked for 4 DMC's in San Diego.
(I didn't want a real job).
Went full-time with Safaris Inc., a nationwide DMC in Los Angeles, Bermuda and San Diego.
(Working for the Man).
A Video Cameraman and Editor for a Video Production Company.
(Lugged a 40 pound camera all over the country).
Started The Event Team in December of 1992 and never looked back.
(Who knew accounting could be so much fun?)
What skills do you bring to The Event Team?
The ability to hire good people and get out of their way!
If you could be any animal what would you be?
Really? That's what you want to ask me? You have just a few questions to get to know me and you want to know what animal I want to be? I am pretty happy being human.
Have you always been a happy person?
Yes but lately I have reached levels I never thought were possible (I blame my wife).
What do you want on your Tombstone?
Sorry I took forever to die.
Do you have any advice for the younger generation?
1. Enjoy life! Don't forget to stop and look around. Life is too short to rush through without having fun.
2. Fall in love with someone or have extreme passion about something!
3. Please keep paying into Social Security.

What I Love About My Job:
It was made for me. Literally. Over the past 5 years I've slowly but surely been empowered to create a position around my skills and strengths. It's a win-win for the company and for my happiness! Also, how many people can say they are good friends with their boss? I am one blessed lady.

“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open." - Martha Graham

Alma Mater / Degree:
James Madison University (J-M-U Duuuuuuukkkeessss) Seriously there's no other way to say it or spell it.
Majored in Communications Studies and Event Management
Something you might not know about me:
I moved to LA a little over a year ago on the train from Washington D.C.- 66 hours with my 2 duffel bags and a road bike packed in a box - to pursue some idea of events in the home of showbiz. (If you're thinking Fivel Goes West right now, you wouldn't be far off). Until now, I've lived in Los Angeles without a car for the entire time with knowledge of how to get most anywhere in the city using public transit. The looks of confusion when I state this fact are nothing short of priceless.
Hobbies/Special Talents:
I'm making it a daily effort to be more like Ron Swanson. That being said, I love the outdoors. Big on person fitness (this is SoCal, right?). I've survived in the woods with a knife and a flint for 5 days straight Bear Grylls style...my parents didn't believe in video games.

The Event Team Intern Program
The Event Team offers a very successful internship program in both the Sales and Operations Departments. Several of our interns have been groomed into full time employees, while many others achieved immediate job placement within the hospitality or events industry. Some interns even wind up as our clients! Our internship program provides a day-to-day glance at the fast-paced environment of a Destination Management Company. It also allows for a wide range of connections and access to
organizations like MPI and HMA, among others.
We ARE NOTaccepting internship inquiries at this time. You can email resumes to info@eventteam.com. Please continue to check this page for updates, and feel free to read below for more information on our program:
About our internship program:
Our interns generally stay with us 3-4 months and work anywhere from 10-15 hours per week depending on their schedule/school requirements. These are volunteer positions, which is why students working for school credit are typically a better fit. That said, we have worked with non-student volunteers who simply want to gain experience and establish connections within the industry. Many interns go on to find employment within the industry (hotels, event production, decor companies, etc.). Some move into full time positions at The Event Team (two of our current staff started out as interns). A couple of interns have actually ended up as clients! On occasion, the opportunity arises for you to be hired as paid event staff.
Where we need help:
We generally need assistance researching & contacting new venues, creating write-ups, developing blog content, and keeping our databases accurate and up-to-date. This means we look for someone who:
-is comfortable using the phone on a regular basis
-is comfortable doing internet research
-has great writing skills
-is creative
-is proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, & Publisher). Familiarity with web databases like Quickbase or Sales Force would be an added plus, but not necessary!a
-doesn’t mind repetition (yes, some tasks can be tedious, but they are very helpful to the sales team)
-can take direction quickly
How we can help you:
-We have a great reputation within the industry and can provide a great overview of how Corporate Events work.
-We try to invite our interns to as many industry events/mixers as possible so they can have a chance to meet and network with people who work in different areas of the industry.
-We provide letters of recommendation after completed internships. |
